Bunting and Lyon was founded in 1936, at the height of the Great Depression. Private Independent School directory, first published in 1943, featured 95 schools. In 1948, the company instituted its counseling service for parents seeking private schools for their children. As an additional service to families, Bunting and Lyon administers standardized admission examinations.
