Alabama Private College Preparatory Day School - Grades 5 to 12 The Altamont School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school enrolling approximately 350 students in Grades 5–12. Altamont prepares each student to live a more meaningful life and shape a more livable world. At Altamont, the arts are as important as athletics; students of different backgrounds share in the process of discovery; reading is revered; multiple language offerings include Latin, Greek, and Mandarin; and upholding the Honor Code is a source of real pride. All students take courses that follow a traditional liberal arts curriculum. Electives include everything from creative writing and filmmaking to Model United Nations and Scholars Bowl. Senior seminar courses include such courses as The Gothic Novel and International Relations. Students may take part in 25 athletic teams, orchestra, drama, choir, school government, National Honor Society, publications, and environmental, history, music, French, Spanish, Latin, and science clubs. Fall Project Week gives every student an opportunity to travel in the U.S. and abroad. A summer program provides academic and extracurricular enrichment. Tuition: $12,348–$16,176. Financial Aid: $740,000. Jimmy Wiygul is Director of Admissions; Sarah Whiteside is Head of School. Southern Association.
