Arizona Private Episcopal Preparatory School - Pre Kindergarten to Grade 8All Saints' Episcopal Day School in Phoenix, Arizona, is a church-affiliated, coeducational institution enrolling students in Pre Kindergarten through Grade 8. Phoenix (population 1,475,834) is the state capital and the fifth fastest-growing city in the United States. Most of Arizona's four-year colleges and universities are located within the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. The city is home to a symphony orchestra, Ballet Arizona, the nation's largest municipal park, and many theaters and museums. All Saints' Episcopal Day School has nurtured the hearts and minds of students since 1963. As an outreach ministry of All Saints' Episcopal Church, the School expects and promotes the individual's active commitment to integrity, learning, and academic excellence. The challenging curriculum and close-knit, caring community reflect the traditional Anglican appreciation of cultural, racial, socioeconomic, and religious diversity. All children, regardless of their denomination, attend student-led chapel sessions twice a week and take part in religion classes. Religious education stresses morals, values, relationships, respect for others, and decision-making skills. All Saints' is a nonprofit school under the auspices of All Saints' Episcopal Church. A 20-member Board of Trustees, including current and past parents, alumni, and representatives of the Vestry, governs the School. All Saints' is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest and holds membership in the National Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of Episcopal Schools. The current endowment totals approximately $1,000,000. The Alumni Associationrepresents the School's nearly 1200 alumni. THE CAMPUS. Situated 10 minutes from downtown in the north central area of Phoenix, the campus is in a residential area of large homes along beautiful, tree-shaded streets. The 11-acre campus, which is shared with All Saints' Episcopal Church, is comprised of the David John Watson Academic Building, with science labs, computer labs, and 6 classrooms; the James M. Fail Library; and the Paul DeWitt Urbano and Florence Pearcy Thompson classroom buildings. The Manning Hall includes an activity center, kitchen, lobby, and 2 fine arts classrooms. In total, there are 38 classrooms. Athletic facilities include a playing field, basketball/volleyball courts, and the Father Carl G. Carlozzi Gymnasium, used for physical education, performances, and special events. The Administrative Facility houses offices and vital records. The Campaign for All Saints' funded construction of the academic building, the gymnasium, and Manning Hall, as well as the renovation of classrooms and the athletic fields. THE FACULTY. John R. Report cards are mailed to the home or distributed at parent conferences, which are scheduled in the fall and spring and as needed throughout the year. In Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten, learning occurs in an atmosphere of fun and play. Classroom activities are structured in a relaxed, unhurried way to enable children to develop new skills and knowledge based on what they already know. Technology is introduced, using computers and audiovisual equipment in the computer laboratories. Spanish, music, art, religion, physical education, and library also begin in Pre Kindergarten. In the Pre Kindergarten and Lower School, All Saints' considers two aspects of a child's development as important as cognitive development. One is that of a positive emotional climate. The School recognizes that the motivation to learn is influenced by emotional well-being, and learning is fostered through curiosity, excitement, laughter, enjoyment, and appreciation. The second aspect is that of social development. Compromise and cooperation are taught through work and play in small groups, and solutions are discussed in classroom meetings. By encouraging, stimulating, and nurturing enthusiasm about each new discovery, teachers kindle a love for learning that carries students through All Saints' and beyond. The curriculum for Grades 1-4 incorporates these developmental strategies in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, Spanish, computers, physical education, library, religion, music, and art. The departmentalized Middle School curriculum provides a well-rounded education, featuring courses in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and Spanish, with enrichment courses in music, art, physical education, computer, and religion. Electives may include Algebra II/Trig, Music Ensemble, Argument and Debate, Hands-on Art, Art, etc., Conditioning Workout, Cross-Country, Science Elective, Computer Elective, and Creative Writing. The Advisor Program enables each child to meet in a small group setting with the same teacher at the beginning and end of the school day. Students are welcome to visit with teachers for additional support before and after school. Members of past graduating classes have enrolled in the following high schools and prep schools: Brophy College Preparatory, North High School IB Program, Notre Dame Preparatory, Phoenix Country Day School, and Xavier College Preparatory. Students take the Educational Records Bureau Tests on a regular basis, and the results are monitored to assess the progress and effectiveness of the School's academic programs. A four-week summer program on campus enrolls students from All Saints' and nearby public schools. STUDENT ACTIVITIES. All Saints' has an active school government with participation in a student council from Grades 5-8. One-third of Grades 7 - 8 students earn membership in the National Junior Honor Society, which recognizes outstanding efforts in academics, leadership, and service. The Builders Club provides opportunities for students in Grades 6 - 8 to serve others, learn and develop leadership skills, and have fun together while building the school community. Other activities include the yearbook, Tiger's Tale; the newspaper, Tiger Tracks; and a writing collection, Colorful Collages. Community service is an integral part of All Saints' life.
